Imperix SA is a Swiss company established in Sion, Switzerland. Its name is derived form the Latin verb imperare, which stands for controlling – or ruling – and refers to the company’s core business: the control of power electronic systems. It is a spin-off the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL).
The development of the first control platform started in 2010 in the Laboratory of Industrial Electronics at EPFL, following the increased requirements of the conducted research. Since then, about a dozen of these control platform are successfully supporting the everyday research and educational needs of the laboratory.
The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources as well as the decentralization of the electricity production is inducing new challenges. More flexibility, more controllability and more interactivity are the typical keywords that are underlying the development of the future electricity grids.
These qualities directly rely on the extensive use of power electronic systems, which is imperix’s domain of expertise.
Relying on modular control and power conversion systems, imperix is a key technological partner, providing customers with high-end devices and know-how, which are crucial elements towards the implementation of tomorrow’s electrical grids.
Since its incorporation in fall 2013, imperix SA (Ltd.) is commercializing hardware and software solutions related to the fast and secure implementation of pilot systems and plants in the field of power conversion, energy storage and smart grids.
In 2013, the EPFL innogrant has been awarded to imperix
